April, 5 2007 - FAA officials overseeing the Javelin program visited Aviation Technology Group Inc. (ATG) yesterday for a company tour and overview. The officials included John Hickey, director of Aircraft Certification; Kim Smith, manager of Small Airplane Directorate; Ali Bahrami, manager of Transport Airplane Directorate; and Mansour Rafat, program manager for ATG Javelin certification project. In addition to the company and program overview, the visit included a demonstration in ATG’s flight simulator and a look at the Javelin prototype and full scale cockpit mockup.
“ATG has an excellent working relationship with the FAA,” said Randy Blosser, ATG certification manager. “Both the FAA and ATG are looking forward to the implementation phase of the Javelin program certification.”
ATG applied for Javelin type certification in February 2005. The planning phase for the certification effort—and the definition of the certification basis, which defines the applicable minimum airworthiness standards for the Javelin—are nearly complete. ATG has an approved Partnership for Safety Plan, which defines the working agreement between ATG and the FAA for certification and continued airworthiness support for the Javelin and potential follow-on projects. FAA approval of this plan, an important milestone in the certification process, enables ATG and the FAA to expedite certification projects by focusing on safety-significant issues.
