VLJ manufacturer Spectrum Aeronautical has launched an online mission simulator that compares various VLJ mission factors including range, costs, and passengers.  Comparison can be made between Spectrums Independence VLJ and various Turboprops, Light Jets and Light-Middle Business Jets.

Light Jets Promoted As Air Travel Of Near Future

This month, a panel of experts will come to Fort Wayne to drum up public support for what organizers see as the future of aviation.  The basic idea is to create an alternative to traditional ground transportation and airline options by offering on-demand flights direct to regional destinations. Using light jets that can take off and land safely without the use of air traffic control towers or long runways, the airplanes would have access to various small airports.

VLJs Highlight AOPA 2006

AOPA Expo 2006 runs November 9 - 11 at the Palm Springs Convetion Center and is expected to continue to highlight the VLJ industry.  VLJ manufacturers Adam Aircraft, Cessna Aircraft, Eclipse Aviation, and Embraer are expected to display their VLJ entries.  Notable exceptions at this time are the Honda and Maverick Jets.

"next year"... and especially, "a jet a for under one million"?  Well those days seem to have gone the way of the Sky Car, you know, one in every garage.  While VLJ's are certainly alive and well the original specifications for a VLJ seemed to have been stretched just a little.

Cirrus Jet To Be Announced

Cirrus Design, better known for their SR20 and SR22 piston aircraft is set to enter the VLJ market. In a mailing sent out this week Cirrus Design has said that it will officially launch their single-engine entry later this month in Orlando at the 2006 NBAA convention.

Nations Air Transportation System Must Become More Agile

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Researchers at Purdue University have created a mathematical simulation that could be used in a new national strategy to ease airport congestion and improve the overall transportation system.  The simulation was created as part of research with NASA to develop "a robust, scalable transportation system concept" that would be more resilient and better able to withstand factors such as severe weather, equipment malfunctions and shifting future demand, said Daniel DeLaurentis, an assistant professor of aeronautics and astronautics.
