For the past twenty years Linden Blue, the founder of Spectrum Aeronautical (SA) (www.spectrum.aero), has been working with the principals of Rocky Mountain Composites (RMC) to develop the techniques necessary for building lighter airplanes out of advanced composites that are within economic reason. Over the last few years they have succeeded in demonstrating disruptive new technologies making these objectives a reality. Now, the full benefits of advanced composites can be made available to business aviation. This will make a significant improvement in the cost/benefit ratio for customers.
Dan Cooney is Spectrum’s Chief Engineer. He brings decades of experience in aircraft design and program management, including development of eight jets and three turbo props. For over a decade Mr. Cooney was Vice President and Chief Engineer of Scaled Composites in Mojave, CA. Development of the Spectrum 33 has required using production tools from the outset. Flight tests are underway on the 33 and FAA certification is expected in 2008. The advanced composites technical team is headed by Larry Ashton, CEO of RMC and Craig Simpson, President of RMC. Ashton has been an innovator in composite technologies for more than thirty years. He and Simpson founded RMC. Spectrum is also part owner of RMC.
