Marking New Era in Regional Transportation OSHKOSH, WISC. – July 28, 2006 – DayJet™ and Eclipse Aviation Corporation today unveiled the first Eclipse 500 very light jet (VLJ) to be utilized in commercial fleet operations. Eclipse 500 serial number 2, built at the Eclipse Aviation production facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico, made its dramatic debut when it touched down at 12 p.m. Central Standard Time this morning at the EAA’s AirVenture 2006 in OshKosh, Wisconsin. The aircraft is the first of a new breed that will be used by DayJet to launch its innovative new “Per-Seat, On-Demand” jet service. The aircraft will be on display outside the Eclipse exhibit (west of AeroShell Square) through Sunday, July 30.
“Today is a historic milestone for DayJet, Eclipse Aviation and the future of aviation,” said Ed Iacobucci, DayJet president and CEO. “With Eclipse nearing its momentous goal of delivering the world’s first VLJ, DayJet moves closer to launching a new form of regional business travel that will change the way people live and work. Affordable, personalized on-demand jet travel is nearing reality. With the unveiling of this aircraft, we remain on schedule to begin service in Florida by the end of this year.” “The showcase flight of EA500.000002 from Albuquerque to Oshkosh represents the hard work, collaboration and ingenuity of many talented people,” stated Vern Raburn, president and CEO of Eclipse Aviation Corporation. “We have worked closely with the DayJet team to ensure the Eclipse 500 provides the performance and innovation to make ‘Per-Seat, On-Demand’ jet service a reality. I look forward to continuing our collaboration with DayJet and helping to bring its one-of-a-kind service to life by year’s end.”
The DayJet aircraft on display this week is the first in a fleet that will expand to as many as 309 Eclipse 500 aircraft within two years. DayJet will launch service in Florida by year’s end – Bringing On-Demand Jet Travel to More People and Organizations DayJet has developed the first “Per-Seat, On-Demand” jet service that makes the convenience of corporate jet travel broadly available and affordable for more people and organizations, turning wasted travel time into valuable business and personal time. “Per-Seat” means customers only pay for the seat(s) booked, not the whole aircraft. “On-Demand” means customers fly only on their individually negotiated schedules. The company will never publish schedules or operate on fixed schedules. DayJet flights will be uniquely tailored to each customer’s needs and priced at a modest premium to equivalent regional full-fare coach airfares. Until now, taking a regional business trip of 300-600 miles meant spending endless hours in a car or taking a connecting flight through a major hub, wasting time and productivity. Thanks to the convergence of innovative new technologies, DayJet turns these short trips into daytrips, giving professionals greater diversity in travel options and greater ability to manage their time. DayJet combines the scalability and efficiency of the Eclipse 500 with its proprietary technical innovations in business simulation and real-time optimization to make “Per-Seat, On-Demand” jet service a practical and affordable regional travel option for a much broader range of people and organizations.
