Contract for two Grob spn aircraft – the first sale of spn in the Middle East

05/23/07 - VIP executive jet company, Prestige Jets of Abu Dhabi, has concluded a sale with ExecuJet Middle East for two spn light jets from Grob Aerospace. Agreement on the purchase was reached on the eve of EBACE 2007 following initial discussions during the MEBA Show in Dubai earlier this year, Representing the first sale of an spn to a Middle East client, the contract for the first aircraft was signed by Niall Olver, CEO of ExecuJet Aviation Group and Faris Deeb, Managing Director of Prestige Jets a subsidiary of the Al Yasi Group. Grob Aerospace returns to EBACE this year, showing the spn’s all new Porsche Design Executive VIP Interior.

The agreement for the second aircraft was signed by His Excellency Sheikh Ghaith Bin Hamel Al Ghaith Al Qubaisi, founder of Al Yasi and the founding partner of Prestige Jets.

Both spn aircraft will be based in Abu Dhabi. The second of the two aircraft will focus on running regular shuttle services between Abu Dhabi and the Al Yasi steel factory in Suhar, Oman. Suhar Airport is runway-restricted and the spn’s unique operating characteristics are ideal for these operations. Both aircraft, which call for delivery in 2009, will be operated by Prestige Jets for commercial use.

The deals were orchestrated by ExecuJet, the exclusive sales agent outside North America and distributors of the spn in the region, through the company’s regional office in Dubai, ExecuJet Middle East. “This sale is testimony to both the spn’s suitability to serve emerging markets in the Middle East and the general buoyant conditions for executive jets in the region.

This was very evident at the recent MEBA Show where we had a lot of interest in the spn.” said ExecuJet Middle East Managing Director Mike Berry. “Middle East customers are catching on to the viability of smaller jets as valuable business tools. We are delighted to have won Prestige Jets as a customer and we look forward to working with them very closely in the run up to service introduction and beyond.”
Prestige Jets operates and manages a private jet fleet currently comprising a Bombardier Challenger 604 and Hawker 800XP, all fitted to the highest standard for its VIP clientele, featuring elegant interiors and state of the art in-flight entertainment.

“The spn fits perfectly in our plans to launch a new dimension in executive jet VIP service,” commented Faris Deeb. “It will be our first light jet, but offering a very comfortable, generously sized and flexible cabin.” Faris Deeb, himself a trained engineer, endorsed the aircraft’s sound German engineering. “The spn offers an exceptional payload-range – 1,800nm with five passengers and two pilots – and has the ability, with its short runway performance, to fly to airports that other executive jets cannot reach.” Deeb noted that the Group expects to be flying the spn on sectors such as Dubai to Cairo.

About the spn

The spn boasts an impressive range and payload for an aircraft in its class. With six passengers and single pilot, the aircraft can serve 1,800 nm (3334 km). The aircraft features a total cabin volume of 405 cu.ft (11.5 m³) – the largest in the light business jet class by a fair margin, and a large passenger door.

Early sales success for the industry’s new generation light business jet has raised market interest with its unique operating characteristics. For example, it can operate on unimproved runways (gravel or grass), traditionally the domain of a turboprop, requiring a balanced field length of just 3,000 ft (914 m) at maximum take off weight.

The spn will also be certified for single pilot operation, and is equipped with an avionics suite more advanced than that of any other aircraft close to its class. Honeywell’s integrated all glass cockpit sets new standards for simplicity, reliability and technology. Two rear-mounted FADEC controlled Williams FJ44-3A engines deliver 2,800 lbs (1,270 kg) of thrust. The aircraft carries a price tag of € 5.8 million.
