Grob Aerospace spn sports new cabin mock-up designed by Porsche Design Studio Print E-mail

Grob Aerospace is showcasing the brand new interior designed by Porsche Design Studio aboard the full size cabin and cockpit mock-up of its spn. It will be displayed for the first time at EBACE 2007 in Geneva, hall 6, stand No 1277.

This is the first time that Porsche Design Studio has applied its philosophy and design to the interior of a business jet. The design has been inspired by the clean lines of high end automotive interiors, featuring the finest high-quality material including high gloss wood veneer, metal finishing, alcantara and soft leather, complemented by luxury carpeting. The spn cabin mock-up displaying at EBACE also features new fully articulated seats from Geven, the Italian seating and interiors manufacturer chosen as supplier for the Executive layout.

Commenting on the interior, Grob Aerospace CEO Niall Olver said: “Porsche Design Studio has fully grasped how we envisaged the cabin experience will be for our discerning customers. It is optimising space, providing passenger comfort and gives the spn a truly distinctive look. Without a doubt, the elegant and clean interior, adapted in two layouts - executive and business - has been a major selling feature for the spn, Europe’s next generation light business jet”.
“We are very pleased with the new interior and delighted to show it off at Europe’s premier business aviation Show,” said Roland Heiler, Managing Director of Porsche Design Studio. Our mission was to create an environment that reflected calm, elegance, comfort and functionality.”

After EBACE, Grob Aerospace is taking the spn cabin mock-up to the US, where it will first be shown at the EAA Airventure in Oshkosh.

About the spn

The spn, boasts an impressive range and payload for an aircraft in its class. With six passengers and single pilot, the aircraft can serve 1,800 nm (3334 km). The aircraft features a total cabin volume of 405 cu.ft (11.5 m³) – the largest in the light business jet class by a fair margin, and a large passenger door.

Early sales success for the industry’s new generation light business jet has raised market interest with its unique operating characteristics. For example, it can operate on unimproved runways (gravel or grass), traditionally the domain of a turboprop, requiring a balanced field length of just 3,000 ft (914 m) at maximum take off weight.

The spn will also be certified for single pilot operation, and is equipped with an avionics suite more advanced than that of any other aircraft close to its class. Honeywell’s integrated all glass cockpit sets new standards for simplicity, reliability and technology. Two rear-mounted FADEC controlled Williams FJ44-3A engines deliver 2,800 lbs (1,270 kg) of thrust.  The aircraft carries a price tag of €5.8 million.
