Geneva, Switzerland, May 3, 2006 – About 80 percent of the more than 240 orders for Cessna Aircraft Company’s Citation Mustang are currently from owner-operators. Cessna is a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company.
“We designed the Mustang to be easy to fly,” said Russ Meyer III, Citation Mustang Program Manager. “The clean, uncluttered cockpit is intended to make flying this jet more intuitive than many of the multi-engine or even single engine aircraft Mustang owner-operators may have flown previously. And, to provide foundational safety, Cessna and FlightSafety have initiated a comprehensive multi-tiered training program, unlike any other program in general aviation.”
The Mustang training program will include an extensive evaluation of the pilot’s experience, and will include Cessna and FlightSafety’s first mentoring program, as well as the first Level D simulator to include the G1000 avionics package, said Chad Martin, Cessna’s Training Manager. Mustang training will begin at the FlightSafety Cessna Learning Center in Wichita, Kan., in the fourth quarter of 2006. Training will be made available in Farnborough, UK, in the second quarter of 2007. “The training for each customer will be customized and may include ancillary courses on high altitude operations, hypoxia, multi-engine training and G1000 avionics training,” Martin said. “Mentoring in the customer’s airplane with a qualified FlightSafety instructor will also be an option. The training will be customized for every person to ensure the highest level of safety for each pilot.” Cessna and FlightSafety are working closely with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration to ensure the program meets or exceeds all of the FAR Part 142 requirements as well as the FAA Industry Training Standards (FITS). Based on unit sales, Cessna Aircraft Company is the world's largest manufacturer of general aviation airplanes. In 2005, Cessna delivered 1,157 aircraft and reported revenues of about $3.5 billion.
