Aviation Technology Group, Inc., (ATG) is pleased to announce the appointment of John McCoury as vice president of engineering and chief engineer.
“John McCoury is a great addition to our team. He’s the caliber of person we were looking for to lead the Javelin engineering team,” noted Charlie Johnson, president of ATG. “His extensive knowledge and experience with new aircraft development—and his relationship with the FAA—will help us streamline the Javelin program as we move toward certification.” Mr. McCoury is an accomplished aerospace engineer with 23 years of experience in design, analysis, testing, certification, and program management. He has served as an FAA Structures Designated Engineering Representative for 13 years. Prior to joining ATG in 2006, he was director of Structures and Materials at Eclipse Aviation Corporation, where he also served as deputy to the vice president of Engineering. Mr. McCoury joined Eclipse in 2000 as the sixteenth employee in the startup venture. He was responsible for the development and certification of the friction stir welding process used to manufacture the Eclipse 500—the first time this advanced manufacturing process was FAA-approved for use in primary structural assembly of aircraft.
“I am honored to be a member of the ATG team and to have been chosen to lead the Javelin engineering effort,” said Mr. McCoury’s previous experience also includes serving as chief engineer for the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy program for the Universities Space Research Association, technical director for Chrysler Technologies Airborne Systems (now L-3 Communications), and structural analysis lead on the B-2 program at both Northrop and LTV. He is a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines and holds a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering. Incorporated in 2000, ATG is dedicated to the design, development, and production of the Javelin executive jet and its derivatives for government markets. Initial customer deliveries of the FAA-certified Javelin are slated for 2008. For photographs and additional information, go to www.avtechgroup.com.
