Did you every wonder what it would be like to fly out of that "smaller" airport closer to your home or business?  If you have and it could be more affordable would you?  What if it was "on demand" and in a smaller jet?

With full FAA Certification of Cessna Aircraft's Mustang VLJ as well as recent customer deliveries of the Eclipse 500 the VLJ industry leads the way to answering these questions.  Air Taxi and corporate operators are looking very closely at this new class of aircraft.  Detractors will say that the range and small size (five to seven passengers) will be a problem.  The detractors are missing the point, those two things are exactly the niche that VLJ's are designed to fill.  These aircraft are being designed for short legs, not cross country flights.  East and West coast business travelers wanting to avoide traffic both at the larger airports and the highways and travel to and from specific destinations that might be just to far and time consuming to drive.

If your travel plans fit into this niche then you just might be the type of customer that many aviation companies are looking for.  The Very Light Jet or VLJ industry is an up and coming phenomenon in the business aviation community. With various aircraft types and programs various stages from design to production manufacturers such as Cessna, Honda, Diamond Aircraft, Embraer, Eclipse Aviation, and more are looking to VLJ's to provide a new service level to the industry.  The VLJ concept is built around providing public with a method of travel that can bring them closer to their specific destionation wihout dealing with the traditional airport congestion.  Faster and on demand can allow you to have multiple stops within a day and still return home.

We all understand the need for extra security and have come to accept the long lines at airports.  But how about having your flight cancelled, being bumped, sitting on the aircraft for 30 minutes to an hour while they "repair" an engine?  It's bad enough when you're traveling for pleasure but when it's for business and schedules are tight it only makes things worse.  These frustrations, as well as the extra 45 minutes, 1-2 hour commute to the airport, are one of the largest driving factors in the business jet market and especially the VLJ and upstart Air Taxi industry.
