The annual Popular Science "Best of What's New" features both the Diamond D-Jet and the Honda HondaJet in it's Aviation and Space category. The HondaJet's unique design and engine placement and the D-Jet design and focus on affordability brought honors to both VLJ manufacturers.
This years Poular Science Best of What's New Aviation and Space category covered a wide range of technologies and development. Both militarty and civilian aircraft and resources are included. In the Aviation and Space category the Grand Award was presented to the dorm-fridge sized TopSat spy satellite created by QinetiQ and Surrey Satellite Technology. Both the HondaJet and D-Jet are noted not only for their design and performance but also for helping to build and develop a new market that will in itself develop new technology and efficiencies. While both aircraft are in the VLJ category the HondaJet is heavier, faster and also more expensive. The HondaJet and D-Jet represent both ends of the VLJ industry spectrum. The VLJ industry has gone through dramatic changes this year. With the certification of the Cessna Mustang and the Eclipse 500 as well as the announcements of the HondaJet, PiperJet, and The-Jet from Cirrus among others. |
